| Title : | IMPACT OF SHORT-TERM TEMPERATURE VARIATION ON THE MIGRATION TIMING OF THE GREAT GREY SHRIKE (Lanius excubitor) IN KARST POLJES OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA |
| Abstract : | This study provides new data on the migration timing of northern populations of the Great Grey Shrike (Lanius excubitor) in two karst poljes (Pašića polje and Resenovačko polje) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The research was conducted over a 10-year period within an area of approximately 25 km² in the municipality of Bosansko Grahovo. A Pearson correlation analysis between the date of the first cold spell in October and the date of first observation of the species in the study area showed a strong positive relationship (R=0.97, n=9, p<0.01), indicating that earlier temperature drops corresponded with earlier arrivals. These results indicate that short-term temperature fluctuations may act as an important environmental cue influencing migration timing of the species in karst poljes. The study contributes to the limited knowledge on migration ecology of L. excubitor in the Dinaric karst region. |
