Title : ECONOMIC PRODUCTION AND COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF BROAD BEAN ACCESSIONS UNDER ORGANIC CULTIVATION
Abstract : Vicia faba L. is determined as the main grain legume grown in Europe, with increasing in-terest from the organic sector. Cultivars suitable for organic cultivation conditions should meet a complex of traits and parameters. Based on a comparative evaluation of 11 faba bean accessions under organic cultivation conditions, it was found that they differed in vegetation duration, habitus, productivity, stability, biochemical composition and tolerance to Botrytis fabae. In herbaceous forage direction, BGP was most suitable accession. The same was characterized by a fast growth rate (0.94 cm/day), high values in terms of height and aboveground biomass (88.5 cm and 43.02 g/plant-1, respectively), and the highest tolerance to B. fabae (I=11.4%). In grain direction, with suitable characteristics for organic production, Fb 04 (rank 2) was identified. It was distinguished by high seed productivity (22.71 g/plant-1) and stability (YSi=8.00+), forage quality (crude protein - CP=235.60 g/kg-1 DM, dry matter) and moderate resistance to B. fabae (I=16.5%). Also, accession Fb 04 had good performances in the herbaceous-forage direction. The results of this study showed that the comparative evaluation of accessions under organic cultivation conditions gives promising outcomes, and BGP and Fb 04 may be recommended for organic faba bean production.
