From 1985-1992 fellow researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering in the Tropics and Subtropics, Department of Postharvest Technology and Energy Technology at the University of Hohenheim. 1992 PhD as Dr.sc.agr. and subsequently Post-doc from 1992-1997 and as scientific assistant from 1997-2001 for the Department of Mechanization and Irrigation at the Institute for Agricultural Engineering at the University of Hohenheim. In 1999 habilitation at the University of Hohenheim.
Full professor at the Department Agrotechnology and Food Sciences, Farm Technology at the Wageningen University (NL) from 2001-2004.
Since 2004 full professor at the Institute for Agricultural Engineering in the Tropics and Subtropics at the University of Hohenheim.
